Pondoland Trails ?? Horse and Hiking Trails

The Amadiba and Pondoland Communities invite you to experience a journey into the wilderness, landscapes, culture and history of the beautiful Transkei Wild Coast. Interact directly with the people and the place as you traverse 85 km of the coast on horse, by foot and in canoes.

Traversing unspoilt coastal wilderness and rural villages, the Pondoland trails have unlocked access to the most spectacular - but previously inaccessible - sections of the Wild Coast. Discover towering cliffs, majestic rock formations and waterfalls cascading into the ocean. Encounter whales and dolphins. Stay in remote villages and interact directly with indigenous communities and their culture. Multi-day horse and hiking trails are offered along this 85 km stretch of the northern Pondoland coast, with entry/exit points at Mzamba and Mboyti. Horses, guides, traditional meals and comfortable accommodation in visitor-friendly rural homesteads are all included in the package

Whether you are a beginner or skilled rider, the horse trails are guided at a pace that encourages low impact on the natural environment whilst offering you the chance to absorb all that this incredible area has to offer.

Facilities and services are provided and owned by self- employed individuals in the form of micro-enterprises that are the basis of the trail. Your participation assists in developing sustainable and responsible eco-tourism focused on community ownership.

Trails depart from the Mzamba Craft Centre, Port Edward. If you are travelling by road from Durban, follow the N2 south to Port Edward and across the Mtamvuna River to get to the Mzamba Craft Centre - opposite the Wild Coast Sun Casino. Buses depart daily from Durban for the Casino. (We can assist you if you would like to stay in Port Edward.)
